Hurricane Ian Update from Pastor Samantha

Date:  October 1, 2022

Dear Beach UMC Family and Friends,

This is a very difficult time for the residents and property owners of Fort Myers Beach and surrounding areas.  It’s also difficult to find the words to convey my feelings.  Thousands are suffering from pain, loss, fear, and anxiety from the destruction caused by Hurricane Ian.  For many the shock is bewildering.  All I can say is that at this time we need God and we need each other.  I ask you to join me in praying for all who are suffering.

Many have asked about the church.  I evacuated to Apopka, FL during the Hurricane and I have not been able to get back to the island.  We know from aerial photographs that the church is standing and appears to have suffered some roof damage.  I will attempt to get to the island on Monday, if allowed, to assess damage to the church and parsonage.  I will also try to check on some people’s homes on the island, if I’m able.

Tomorrow is Sunday, Oct 2nd, and we obviously will not be holding any worship service at the church.  I will Livestream a prayer and worship service from my current location on the Beach UMC Facebook page tomorrow at 9:30 am.  Please join me if you are able.

The next several weeks and months will be hard.  Let’s trust in God to guide and lead us down the road of rebuilding and recovery that lies ahead.

May God’s peace be with you.

Pastor Samantha
